On June 23, 1972, the Prestige De France committee gathered to honor Vacheron & Constantin, the first and only watchmaker to receive the Diplome Du Prestige de la France. The awarded title is engraved on the case back of the timepiece, along with the corresponding honor. Unknown is whether Vacheron created the Prestige de la France specifically to commemorate this diploma or if they simply gave the name to an existing watch. Regardless of its origins, the Prestige de la France stood out among the traditional watches with round cases offered at the time. It remained in Vacheron's collections until it was redesigned at the turn of the century. The tribute and homage that Vacheron & Constantin continue to pay to this model today confirm that the highly collectible wristwatch from 1972 forever altered the course of watchmaking.
This fine and rare Vacheron Constantin asymmetric example is crafted in 18K yellow gold and powered with a manual-winding movement.
This "Prestige De La France" model was specially engraved to honor the "Comité de France's" important accolade.
